India shamed by attack on women in Mangalore
Share this debate

The attack on young women at a Mangalore pub once again shows how fascist forces are trying to gain the high moral ground in the country. This attack is nothing but the handiwork of few disgruntled elements bent upon imposing talibani diktats on a free and democratic Indian society. Although, the police have arrested few men responsible for the attack, but that doesn't put an end to the matter.

colonel prashant jha : Feb 19, 2009
Does this at all need a debate? whatever be the case...howsoever much the crime may be...there cannot be any justification of beating up women...(though Citzen Journalists, like Mr. scsosho will say it is not bad to slap women) the culture men, are all basically frustrated morons...they should be castrated...period...

Shame on india and shame on those who called himself male. They are not ram sena's member they r suppose to call as ravan sena. Ram, who was respecting the womens can't allow these people in his sena. it was really the shameful act, just to get publicity. and who is he to do this kind of act ? he is not above to constitution. If he is really very serious about indian womens, then stop those men who use to drink alcohol and beat their wives and childrens everyday. Ram sena should be taken to court and put behind the bars.

One common agenda for every party (political or social ) is to spread the message to uplift the backward and bring them into the mainstream with full honours. Three different examples (realistic happenings) are presented here which could be taken as the best sample examples for the upliftment of the poor into medium class category: (1) An autorickshaw driver proudly mentioned his only daughter had got a plum job with air services - however, the driver is not having any money left since he spent every penny on giving higher education to his daughter - he also expressed concern that during marriage time he may not be able to spend much; however, he was consoled that since his daughter had found an excellent way of earning her daily bread and butter through his kind courtesy, therefore, he would also get a nice boy for his daughter (2) An housemaid proudly says she is supporting her younger brother who is studying bio technology - excellent way of understanding the value of education (3) A boy servant proudly says his elder brother is studying MBBS - again an excellent way of putting someone in the family to charter greater heights in education . If each political and social organisation, by whatever name they can call themselves, adhere to spread the message of the above three examples, I am sure lots of good will happen to society that much faster.

In christanity..drinking is not a sin...they drink to celebrate...the word merry christmas it self means merry making that is drinking and clebrating...so tomorrow these hooligans might go n attack indian christain women also cos after all they are too indians...but yes beating up women n playing with her dignity is definitely a sin...but wat these sri ram sene kids did is certainly a blot on democracy...whic itself means...neither i am anybody's slave nor anyone's master....live and let live

Jairam: ar3e you drunk, why double standard in your note. I dont think you have any moral values. You should know history of V day. According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl — who may have been his jailor's daughter — who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France. While some believe that Valentine's Day is celebrated in the middle of February to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine's death or burial — which probably occurred around 270 A.D — others claim that the Christian church may have decided to celebrate Valentine's feast day in the middle of February in an effort to 'christianize' celebrations of the pagan Lupercalia festival. In ancient Rome, February was the official beginning of spring and was considered a time for purification. Houses were ritually cleansed by sweeping them out and then sprinkling salt and a type of wheat called spelt throughout their interiors. Lupercalia, which began at the ides of February, February 15, was a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture, as well as to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.

Such an insult to the society that a few mobsters in view of publicity have done a crime of the highest order. What were they trying to prove by beating women? We are a democratic country and everyone enjoys the right to do what one wants to and the same applies to women as well. So if they happened to party one night doesn't mean they are bad charactered or have no principles and look at the audacity of those guys beating them. Ones indulging in an offence like this should be severly punished to become a lesson for others tyring to impersonate them.
Neeraj_N : Feb 13, 2009
i completely agree with the fact that the entire episode that happened in Manglore was absolutely a sign of confusion that our country still clings on to in terms of what culture to adopt.it becomes highly dangerous when we hang right in the middle of being either western or following the absolute i ndian culture.
sakshi gupta : Feb 12, 2009
I would like to inform you that the attack was on both men and women. Media has chosen to show women being assaulted to get mileage out of it and to suit its feminist agenda. Nevertheless, it is bad for civil society.

shame on you India and bunch of Karataka's Indians. twp cases raping the bar and beating a women and police takes no action- you guys are pimps. You have no culture values, i guess you treat your mothers and sisters like this...Men are pimps
Prof Ramesh Manghirmalani : Feb 05, 2009
Pramod Muthalik proudly said he is proud that his group came into highlight due to Mangalore Pub scene . He even threatened to attack pubs, restaurants , parks and even shops celebrating Valentine's day. Who is he to decide what free India should celebrate and what not. Definately the Valentine culture is not Indian , but India has learnt and assimilated various things from foreign culture. Be it BPO's , fast food or even our present education system and judiciary system . Its the era of globalisation and every person has the right to excercise his free will and follow any culture he/she likes.
Shilpa_Bhanot : Feb 04, 2009
I completely agree. Why arent the police able to close the case? That is a question we all already know the answers to - there definitely is some big time back up. How can else can one explain the still evasive brain behind all this?
Lakshmi Balasubramanian : Feb 03, 2009
it was a shameful event india is a democratic country each & every person has the full right to live his life according to himself/herself we dont have the rights to interfere in the matter of others it was just a political matter nothing else
mohit saini : Feb 01, 2009
Fully agree. No one has any business to interfere in such matters. Those rowdies must be punished
Vyasamoorthy : Feb 01, 2009
The pub culture talk is as stupid as saying if a person eats meat you have a meat-eating culture. The only culture that holds is citizen culture and that was violated," he says. Whether it's Shiv Sena goons or Raj Thackeray's MNS thugs, the only deterrent is to ensure they serve jail sentence, says Ramesh Manghirmalan of California. All such groups are primarily coward s, and thrive on publicity and administrative support.Sri Ram Sena, BS Yeddyurappa, the chief minister of Karnataka are idiots they take bribes and art of pimp cultures
Ramesh Manghirmalani : Feb 01, 2009
it was a shamful act of RAM SENA.they spoiled the name of god RAM
