Is Varun Gandhi being punished harshly by the UP government?

Varun Gandhi, BJP’s poster boy, may find the going tough for him, once again. The Mayawati-led BSP government in Uttar Pradesh is all set to steal the arrest thunder from the young MP-aspirant from Pilibhit. An FIR was lodged against Varun Gandhi for attempt to murder and inciting violence outside the district jail. He has been booked under section 307 of the IPC, which accuses him of attempt to murder. Other grim chares relate to rioting and endangering human life (sections 147, 148, 148, 332 and 336 IPC). Political observers feel that all these fresh charges have been slapped on him to make his bail, which was to come up on Monday (March 30), more difficult. It may be pointed out that the BJP was cautious. Some feel that the crowd swell that had gathered and cheered for Varun Gandhi were the cadres of the other outfits of the saffron brigade, alongwith the rank and file of the BJP. Meanwhile, LK Advani has advised BJP leaders to be careful with their speech. It is also being said that Mayawati’s vendetta against the BJP stems from her personal anger – her break-ups with the saffron party, in the past. She too must answer the people for fielding the Mafiosi. And that it’s a typical case of kettle calling the pot black. Some feel that the latest charges leveled on Varun Gandhi is politically motivated and has no iota of truth in it. Others feel that he has been very brash with his words and action. What is your take: Is Varun Gandhi being punished harshly by the UP government?

India has always welcomed strangers and foreigners with open hands. And ,ironically, always they mistook this hospitality for weakness. Be it the British, Dutch or Persians, they have always wanted to conquer and rob us of our wealth. Its said that if we had the wealth that the British took form here, we would be the richest country in the world.Needless to say, our Kohinoor diamond, the world's biggest is in the crown of the British Quenn. Even the Muslims took a part of India, adding to our woes but still we never protested. But now the time has come to Reclaim our country and Varun Gandhi made this obvious by stating what he did. I do agree he used derogatory language but thats only because he wanted to show that this time we mean real business. Jai Ho !

Yes, the UP Govt. wants to attract on the so-called minority votes by putting serious charges under NSA on Mr. Varun Gandhi. The sections under which Mr. Varun Gandhi was implicated are to be used on dreaded terrorists, perhaps the UP government in an act to show their over enthsiasm and win over the votes of minorities have implicated Varun Gandhi under the wrong provisions of law. Can the same provisions of law be applied on Ms. Mayawati, who chided the upper caste people in many of her previous election campaigns?
A S L Narasimha Rao : Mar 31, 2009
Mayavati wants to become PM and this is her false dream actualy UP Govt should be treated for NSA ACT after all Varun Gandhi is the son of Maneka Gandhi a popular journalist and a good plitician and media and journalist should help to rescue Arun Gandhi in such a shame case of NSA ACT..............................................................

The feud within the Congress party for claiming as the real sucssessors of 'Gandhi' title is the chief reason for all the hype and hangama aginst Varun Gandhi's comments. I dont think Mr. Varun Gandhi has made big blunder or crime by uttering a few words which are not liked by a perticular community, which on the contrary day in and day out can lash out and chide at the mejority community in whichever way their tongue moulds. Whenever they do it secularism and minoritisms crop up all of a sudden to stop other community people debating about their comments. How far it is justified? Is it real secularism? Why did NSA applied on the Karnataka Minister who has commented on earth quake in Gujarat as God's revenge on a perticular community? why did the media not highkighted it as they are doing it now in the case of Varun Gandhi? Is our media really neutral? or our media ready to do what ever it takes for cheap popularity and coverage?

The poster boy of BJP, Varun Gandhi, is facing censure for the comments that he is purported to have made in his constituency, Pilibhit. He faced flak from his cousin, Priyanka Gandhi, who advised him to read and understand the true meaning of Gita. Now, his grand aunt, Nayantara Sehgal (Jawaharlal Nehru’s niece) stated to a prominent TV channel that she is ‘shocked’, as Varun’s comments struck the very foundation of our republic. The Allahabad High Court dismissed his writ petition on Wednesday (March 25) morning. Varun Gandhi faces arrest. Meanwhile, as the heat against Varun increases, the BJP, which was almost ready to drop him as a hot potato in the recent past, having distanced itself from his comments have rallied strongly behind him, sinking all their differences – or so it seems! In this media trial of Varun Gandhi, public opinion is sharply divided. A section feels that he is a gutsy, young man, who has the courage to call spade a spade (read, BJP’s Hindutva agenda), while others feel that he has created blasphemy, considering his Nehru-Gandhi lineage. What’s your take on the subject? Do you agree with Varun Gandhi’s stand? (Please vote ‘Agree’ if you support his comments and ‘Disagree’ if you don’t). Was Varun Gandhi’s comment against a particular community appropriate?
hari : Mar 28, 2009
He should be banned from contesting and put in jail Varun is duplicating his father's model for politics. Bad idea. Such incendiary speeches should be quashed before they do further damage. personaaly feell he should be punished and he shud be stopped from registering himself for the elctions as he can also make such statements in future and which can lead to disputes among the comm. he didnt realise dat our india is a secular state n watever he is saying can effect the communities adversely varun gandhi's comment against a particular community was not appropriate....becoz this can create disputes among the communities and can lead to anger in that minority comm.against another communities....Such lines of the politicians can affect the people of the respective comm adversly. Varun gandhi's statement was not at all appropriate as it was pointing out a particualr comm. which is wrong and is contempt of conduct I do not believe that he said all this in the first place .whoever doctored to show him a poor light is very insecure. we are living in secular country, every one has the right to live.... I feel he should not be allowed to contest elections.
k.v.k.reddy : Mar 28, 2009
varun gandhi compalsary quilty for namination but bjp party decide that continue the election contest.so this bad situation against E.C decision.we compulasry maintain the consitution law.so people decided that his contesting.
k.v.krushiharreddy : Mar 28, 2009
I agree with Varun Gandhi. I dont know the reson why his words are blown out of proportion... just because he belongs to Gandhi family? so do they not have the right to personal views and opinions... if you dis agree with them then.... you too have democratic ways of opposition. I dont see why this much of the scene is created .. perhaps to get cheap and best image as secular.
A S L Narasimha Rao : Mar 26, 2009
I feel this a campaign to malign brighter scion of Gandhi family to protect dullard in waiting. There is nothing secular both Congress and Communists has no qualms to embrace Madani in Kerala whose speeches highly inflamatory against Hindus. Unless and until Hindus statrt voting for their interest enblock this secular drama will continue.

No.i m agree with this that Mr varun had suffer a lot by u p govt .ya it will sufer a lot as compare raj takrey.the only diffreance between two is that varun was cought by police next day and raj is roaming free till date.this is true that if any person say some thing to any body either its varun ghandi, rahul ghandi or any other leader may gat same punishment .but the thing disappoint me is that no police cought raj through their power every police may fear by raj at last but not least the punishmentt come true when raj will arested by police not for a day .in law every one get equal pinishment for same crime

What is there to agree in his remarks? Is it not only a very inapporpriate question asked by Childish India Mediapersons? It is good that Law is taking due course of action, but many idiots Indians will definitely vote for him to create a new monster.

Whether or not Varun Gandhi made such comments, whether or not he is an authority on Hinduism or voice of the religion, is all immaterial. What is important to know is: Since when has Javed Akhtar become the patriarch of the Muslim community that he is asked to give his expert comments on everything that engulfs this country.
Rajendra : Mar 30, 2009
If what he said is correct; and, if what media has reported is ad verbatum, I think its amply clear that he made no comment against any specific community, minority for that matter, by name.
Rajendra : Mar 30, 2009
Varun Gandhi have no rights to speech against minority community, because they also have equal right to survive in Indian democracy.....
Seema Chauhan : Mar 30, 2009
