After Jet Airways' pilots held the airlines and the passengers to ransom over forming a union, now their counterparts in Air India have gone on a strike demanding that their salaries should not be cut, despite the poor finances of the company. Since the negotiations regarding the salaries can be done even without strike, it is imperative that government should invoke the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to ensure pilots continue their work.
