Should India have stringent anti-terrorism law?

Homegrown terror has engulfed India from all sides. Whether it is the Hindi heartland of Uttar Pradesh or Bihar, mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, metro cities like Mumbai and Bangalore, the terrorists have caught India on the wrong foot. The are planting bombs and killing people, safe in the knowledge that even if they are caught, the system will fail to punish them. After the withdrawal of the POTA, the terrorists feel that there is no strong law to check their activities. Terrorists find India a playground of local and global jehad. In a shocking disclosure it has been found that SIMI activists, arrested for the recent bomb attacks in Ahmedabad and other Indian cities were connected with bomb attacks earlier also. They had been arrested and due to the lack of adequate proofs were granted bail only to indulge in similar activities against the people, once again. Isn't it time for the Indian government and civil society to think about the future of the country and decide whether it will allow the country to become a Jehadi battleground or it will be a safe, peaceful and democratic country? Should India have stringent anti-terrorism law?

terrorists and there families should be shot dead. this will deter this will deter families of future terrorists from allowing there family members to adopt terrorism as an profitable employment opportunity. but there should be a difference between terrorists supported by foreign countries who want to divide india(kashmiri terrorists & punjab terrorists) AND those who take up terrorism to demand justice for the wrong done to them by governments( naxalites, gorkhaland agitators). the first need to be eliminated , the second need to be listened to for removing there grievances within the indian constitution but they still need to be punished for there deeds.

Yes, the country needs to have strict laws made against terrorism now its a high time and there are laws already made in our country but the problem is of implementation of laws. Everybody is corrupted today. ministers are fighting for seats..and they are not at all concerned about anything else it seems..terrorist gets successful in their activities because they also know that government is busy in winning the seats and fighting with each other. its time now for people to join hands and should not depend on government. to change the system we have to be in the system.

yes, the country needs to have a serious set of laws to combat issues of terrirism.. a few of them wouldd be a) quick outcomes to a serious investigation, b) no intervention of the potilical or social forces in the decisions, c) justifiable punishment.

Fix the judicial system. Disconnect it from the political. Report more to the people on INACTION.. start putting the pressure on the politicians so that instead of them thinking twice in the name of votes - let them know that in the absence of action, they will lose votes. We need to get the masses involved - that's the only way. As for folks found guilty - death penalty. No mercy. Period. I'd also like to see a poll taken among rural and urban muslims to find out what their stance is on this whole thing - do they feel sympathetic to the attacks? Or do they feel that the terrorists have insulted Islam by attacking innocent people in the name of Islam? Sigh..

I have no hesitation to say that wherever terrorist cells are in existence, they should be razed to the ground level without loss of human lives. For achieving this, all SAARC nations must sit together and do a good home work and then with the help of leading experts both from national and international forums must envlove a comprehensive good policy as to how to wipe out terrorist cell wherever they seem to be existing. Laws like POTA and much more is the need of the hour. Our Prime Minister has gone on record saying terrorism is proving a big stumbling block towards achieving all round economic prosperity. Journalists should be encouraged to interview people with terrorism mindset as to WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR AND WHICH SEEM TO BE MISSING FOR THEM!!! Such interviews and feedback will help in resolving many of the issues for promoting a peaceful society to prosper and flourish.

There was a Law POTA in india after it terrorists attacked Akshar Dham Mandir, Red Ford and the biggest attack on Parliament.... What will happen by a law ? will terrorists be afraid of the name of law... if we put a board saying "POTA in India" on the borders of the country will terrorist return and change their mind of attacking ? If we will tell a terrorist "POTA!!" will he die ? The only way we can stop terrorism is stop corruption. Corruption in police, corruption in millitary, corruption in politics and tighten the security. There are many strict laws in India but terrorists do not have to do anything with law. They wana kill people and they kill. If POTA was working in India at the time of Mumbai Attacks, would terrorists release all the people from taj? would terrorist not kill the 200 people they killed? I dont think so !

Democracy in a way is a curse for india as far as terrorism is concern. There are to many loopholes in the law & act that terrorists can leave for donkey year's in the name of fair trial, moreover the will is missing among the politicians to sort the problem once and for all.Politicians are not agressive enough even if there mother country's dignity at stake.

Disagree. It is not a fact that India needs a strong political will afresh to counter terrorism because such will is there but not translated into action due to political rivalry among political leaders. There are difference of opinions on implementation of national security measures. The gravity of terrorism often measured by religious angles , not by the criminal procedure code. Political milage becomes first priority, not the interest of the nation.Such attitude will make India a soft target for terrorists till we change our attitude.
