On the fateful day of 31 October, 1984, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards as a revenge to Indian army attacking and damaging the holiest Sikh shrine, the Golden Temple during 'Operation Blue Star' in June 1984 to oust militants holding up there.

Life Of An Afghan Hammam by Tanvi Maheshwari. On 14 May 2010, when a flood hit Kholm, a small town in north Afghanistan, it damaged a 165 year old public bath house. Hammam Khisht-i-Kopruk was left in a ruinous state, and?the?sludge from?the?flood threatened to crack?the building open if swift action was not taken. The book explores how?the?local community and AFIR, an architectural practice based in Afghanistan led by Dutch architect Anne Feenstra, got together with?the?Ministry of Information and Culture to save?the community?s living heritage in?the?nick of time with?the?help of?the?Cultural Emergency Response Program of?the?Prince Claus Fund in?The?Netherlands in September 2010. Followed by a panel discussion on Cultural Emergency Now! Can we afford to postpone our response to cultural emergencies? A diverse group of thinkers, doers and practitioners share anecdotes from their notebooks, developing a narrative that responds to this question.

46,000 more houses to come up for poor in Delhi

More than 46,000 low-cost houses are slated to come up for Delhi?s urban poor. Of these, 40,000 will be built on vacant land in Savda Ghevra and Bhalswa Jahangirpuri. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) took the decision on Saturday at its Board meeting and also approved four more projects for construction of 6,200 flats at various places.
