On April 5, social activist Anna Hazare started an indefinite strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to demand the passing of the Jan Lokpal Bill. Across the nation thousands of people supported Anna Hazare for the Jan Lokpal Bill. His fast ended on April 9 after the government accepted his demand. On August 16, 2011, Hazare was arrested hours before his indefinite hunger strike along with other key members of Team Anna. Anna Hazare received support from people across the country after his arrest. On August 20, 2011 Hazare left the Tihar Jail for the Ramlila Grounds and "tens of thousands" of his supporters came to the Ramlila Maidan. On December 11, 2011 Anna Hazare sat on a day-long fast for a strong Lokpal Bill.
