"Dented and Painted" by Abhijeet Mukherjee
In the backdrop of the infamous gang rape incident in New Delhi, when the 23 year old victim succumbed to the brutal injuries and thousands of Indians took to the street in candle light protest demanding for justice, Abhijit Mukherjee called the female protesters 'dented and painted'. Abhijeet Mukherjee was the ruling Member of Parliament from Jangipur in West Bengal and was also the son of the then President of India -
Pranab Mukherjee. Nobody understood what he actually meant by the term 'dented and painted', a term commonly used in auto mobile workshops. However Abhijeet elaborated on his comment saying most of the female protesters come to the candle light march with proper make ups put on their face, along with their children. Such protesters are less likely to be students and take protesting as a fashion. Facing severe backlash from media and women organization across the country, Mukherjee later withdrew his comment and offered 'unconditional apology' for the comment.
