Formed in 1992 the band derived its name from the fact that music scenario in the East in the 1990s was devoid of life, as in a desert. The band is inspired by bands like Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden. Its members include Siddhartha, Sanjay, Sandip, Kaniska, Sudipto and Sibaji. They made their professional debut on 6 March 1993 at Aban Mahal in Kolkata. And, in 1999, released their first album with the help of HMV. In 2003, they got associated with a Bengali movie titled Nil Nirjone and composed all the songs in the movie.
Cassini's Division, formed in 2001, is a Kolkata-based modern Indian rock band. It derives its name from Cassini division in the rings of Saturn. Rahul Guha Roy, Sukanti Roy, John Bose and Ludo are the band musicians. It specialises in fusing Indian music with punk and heavy metal. It aims to reduce the gap between the Indian music and the Western rock and to change the outlook of rock music in India. The band focuses on writing catchy and original music.
Eclipse was formed in 2000 by the students of Clarence High School in Bangalore. Roshan, Chintan, Sachin and Andrew are the band members. The band started by playing covers including 'Wasted years' by Iron Maiden, 'Winds of change' by Scorpions, 'Mama said' by Metallica and 'Patience' by 'Guns n' Roses at various school events. The band is all set to participate in different school-level music competitions in Bangalore.

Indian Ocean is a contemporary fusion music band of northern India. Formed in 1990 the band has four members namely, Susmit Sen, Asheem Chakravarthy, Amit Kilam and Rahul Ram. In the same year, with Shaleen Sharma on drums, they recorded their first demo. It took about two years for the HMV to record the first album of Indian Ocean. It got its major breakthrough in 1998, when Times Music signed it. Its famous albums include Desert Rain, Kandisa, Jhini and Black Friday. The band has also participated in international concerts in Australia, Germany, London, Indonesia, New Zealand and Japan.

It seems to be breaking new ground defying many stereotypes of Indian musicians.
Formed on 17 June 1991, the genres of this band include rock n roll, IndiRock, blues and alternative rock. The band consists of Nitin Malik, Sonam Sherpa, Saurabh Choudhary, Subir Malik, Chintan Kalra, Dilip Gururaj Ramchandran, Shambu Nath, Imran Khan and Rajat Kakkar. Parikrama has a distinguished ability to merge music of Indian classical instruments, like tabla and flute, with other instruments like guitar, keyboards and drums. The band has about 200 concerts to their name. After performing in almost every city of India, the band is yet to come out with its own complete album. The famous single hits of the band include ‘Xerox’, ‘Till I’m No One Again’, ‘Open Skies’ and ‘Rhythm and Blues’.
A Mumbai-based rock group, the band squad consists Pradeep, Vispy, Mithun, Rohit and Jai Rowkavi. With one of the very few Indian metal acts in 2000, the band earned a reputation of being one of the most hard-hitting live acts. It won the first ever reality television rock band competition in India, Channel V’s Launchpad. Their live music video for ‘In Dependence’ was shot by Channel V. The band released its debut album in 2004 named Compose…Oppose…Dispose, which was recorded and distributed by Sony Music India. Prayag is a band which mainly sings Hindi and Sufi rock music. Its music aims to be spiritual, sensual, rocking as well as thought provoking. Like the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, Prayag is about influences from different shores intermingling to create a new sound that experiments freely with soundscapes, defies genre barriers, and yet is as uniquely Indian as it is rooted in rock. Pranab and a huge fan of Pink Floyd, Swapnil met online and found that they have similar passion and interest in music. So, in the beginning of 2003 they came together to form this band called Prayag, which was later replete with the joining of Veeru, Sumeet and Naveen. NMIMS, SWAT and IITG are some of the places they have rocked with their kind of music. They have also been a part of the well-known competitions like Channel [V] Launch Pad, and Go 92.5 FM’s Music Talent Hunt.
It is an Indian hard rock band formed in August 2004 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The band currently comprises Arjun Kaul, Bhim Kaul, Sahil Mehta and Akshat Bhardwaj. The band members very easily fuse disco and dance with hard rock and metal. The band with its traditional but grittier style brought a drastic change in the then rock scene in India. And performances with luminaries from the local and occasional international music scene — musicians of the likes of Gino Banks, Sheldon Pereira, Clifford Pereira, Jules Fuller, Gary Lawyer, Mattias ‘IA’ Eklund, and Jonas Hellborg — has catapulted the pieces of the band to their much deserved critical acclaim.
Formed in 2000-01, the Bangalore-based band has about 100 shows under its belt and has shared stage with big players, like Shanker Mahadevan, Shaan, Parikrama, Euphoria, etc. The band comprises of Vivian, Natraj, Prasad, Pradeep and Manoj George. The band prides itself on being the only rock band from the south of India to write songs in the national language, Hindi. It has featured in a music compilation, titled Asha Wali Dhoop, which has been made in aid of the tsunami that hit the South Asia in 2004. The compilation features some of the biggest names in Indian music.
