2002-03: Bilateral trade
The Indo-Japanese bilateral trade in 2003-04 stood at US$ 4 billion, 18 per cent more than what it was in 2002-03.
   
2004: FDI since 1991
Japanese FDI in India during the period 1991-2004 have been in the order of US$3.2 billion, accounting for around 4.8 per cent of total Indian
approvals for all FDI.
   
2004: Technical collaboration
Japan's share is 7-8 per cent of India's total technical collaborations with
foreign partners
   
April 2005: Global Partnership
Landmark visit of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to India in April 2005
gives impetus to the global partnership resolve of the cotwo countries.
   
September 2005: Cooperation in energy sector
The two sides agree to step up cooperation in the energy sector, including
through timely implementation of the Plan of Action agreed upon between the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas of India and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan in Tokyo on September 29, 2005.
   
January 2006: Foreign Minister of Japan, Mr.Aso visits India
Foreign Minister Aso conveys that India will remain the largest recipient of the Japanese ODA loan.
   
May 2006: Defence cooperation
Defence Minister of India, Pranab Mukherjee visited Japan
A joint statement was issued to promote defence exchanges.
   
June 2006: Economic relations
Indian Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath holds in-depth
discussions with Minister Toshihiro Nikai on the measures to further
strengthen the Japan-India economic relations.
   
2007: Year of Japan in India
The Governments of India and Japan agree to observe the year 2007 as “Year of Japan in India.”
