17 May 2006: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issues a notice to the striking resident doctors warning them to join work within 24 hours or face action.

The cops stop the pro-quota demonstrators at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
   
16 May 2006: The junior resident doctors of 14 government hospitals out of 40 in Delhi resume work.
 
15 May 2006: The medicos and the doctors of the private hospitals join the nationwide strike, but resume work the next day.

The government hints at the increase of the general seats in the IIT, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and central universities.

   
14 May 2006:

The medical students from Delhi decide to go for an indefinite hunger strike.

   
13 May 2006: The students in Mumbai under the Youth for Equality banner protest in front of the governor’s house, resulting into violent clash between the police and the protesting students.

In protest against the police action in Mumbai the resident doctors in Delhi go on an indefinite strike.
   
12 May 2006:

The medical students organise a march from Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) to Jantar Mantar in protest against the prime minister’s silence on the reservation issue.

   
10 May 2006: The pro-reservation front Arakshan Samarthak Morcha holds a meeting at Jantar Mantar demands dismantling of the Knowledge Commission.
   
09 May 2006: Around 1,500 students under the banner of the Youth for Equality in Kolkata present a memorandum to the governor of West Bengal.
   
08 May 2006: The National Knowledge Commission opposes the extension of the reservation for the OBCs by a vote of 6-2.
   
02 May 2006: The pro-reservation front, which includes the All India Minorities Front, Delhi Pradesh National Panthers Party and the Indian Justice Party, holds a rally.

The students from engineering colleges, the University of Delhi, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and different schools join the medical students to march from the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) to the Parliament Street
   
28 April 2006: The demonstrations are held in Bangalore, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Rajkot.

05 April 2006 Arjun Singh declares that the government proposes 27 per cent reservation for the OBCs in 20 central universities, IIMs and IITs.
   
22 Dec 2005: The Rajya Sabha passes the 104 Constitution Amendment Bill
   
21 Dec 2005: The 104th Constitution Amendment Bill is passed in the Lok Sabha
   
12 Aug 2005: The Supreme Court of India gives a judgement in the P A Inamder vs the State of Maharashtra case, declaring that the state cannot impose its reservation policy on minority or non-minority unaided colleges, including professional colleges.
