Panchashila flag of Buddhism represents five noble qualities of the Buddha

Most religions have an emblem and a flag. Buddhism did not have a flag for a long time. It was in 1952 that World Buddhist Congress accepted a flag as its symbol, which was jointly designed by J.R. de Silva and Colonel Henry S. Olcott to mark the revival of Buddhism in 1880 in Ceylon, now Sri Lanka.

At least 91 die in giant Oklahoma tornado

Oklahoma City and its suburban areas were hit by a huge tornado yesterday with winds blowing at a speed of 200 mph in the afternoon, resulting in the death of 91 people, including 20 children. Debris was left all over the road, hundreds of homes were destroyed, and cars were flying high in the air.

2.7 km long asteroid set to fly past Earth

In the next 200 years, an asteroid will never come this close to earth as much as it is going to on May 31, 2013 at 4:59pm Eastern time. 2.7km long Asteroid 1998 QE2, which will pass as close as 3.6 million miles from earth does not, however, pose any kind of threat to the planet, despite its gigantic size.

Western Nevada College (WNC) will have unique Multi-faith Baccalaureate Service on May 20 in Carson City in the US, a first in its 41 plus years of existence. Hindu religious statesman Rajan Zed, a co-organizer of this service, alongwith Douglas Diversity Student Club of WNC; clergy belonging to Christian (various denominations), Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha'i and Native American traditions will bless the graduates with their respective prayers in this Service. Venkateswara Hindu temple set to open in Ohio

Sree Venkateswara Temple of Cleveland in Richfield Village in Ohio in the US is opening on a seven-acre lot with elaborate seven-day celebrations starting May 22. Besides Lord Venkateswara (Balaji) as main deity; its Sanctum Hall will also include the deities of Vighneswara (Ganesha), Sreedevi (Lakshmi), Bhudevi (Andal), Garuda and Anjaneya (Hanuman). Other Temple features include community hall, classrooms, kitchen, etc. Besides worship, Temple will also hold special events.

Reshma spent 17 days under a collapsed Bangladeshi building and lived to tell the tale

Following a disaster, after a certain amount of time, people forget statistics, how and why it happened but seldom do they forget a survivor's story as that gives hope. In the recent Bangaldeshi building collapse, a lot of lives were lost and a lot of families are still struggling with their emotions. American gun lovers to adopt Mahatma Gandhi's 'Satyagrah' principle!

Ironically, in its fight for the right to bear arms the American gun lobby has decided to take the help of Mahatma Gandhi's principle of Satyagraha! Smithsonian launching world's first yoga history exhibit

'Yoga: The Art of Transformation', termed as 'world's first exhibition of the visual history of yoga', will be held at Smithsonian in Washington DC, the world's largest museum and research complex, from October 19 to January 26 next.
